This is a coupled model of non-Newtonian fluid and hyper elastic solid material. The above movie shows displacement field in the artery and streamlines of blood colored by the velocity magnitude.
The geometrical model of the artery and calcified tissues is constructed from CT images of a patient. The blood is modeled as a shear-thinning fluid, and the solid is modeled using the Neo-Hookean material. Fiber reinforcement is incorporated into the solid artery to represent the anisotropic behavior of the adventitia, as shown below. The calcified tissues are modeled as isotropic hyperelastic solids. The fluid and solid domains are coupled at the interface in a non-matching fashion to provide flexibility in mesh discretization and in choosing different element sizes.
