Fluid-Structure Interaction on Non-Matching Meshes

Newtonian fluid and a Neo-Hookean solid beam are coupled at the moving interface. The flow equations are written in the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) frame, while the solid equations are written in the Lagrangian frame. We developed a Variational Multiscale Discontinuous Galerkin (VMDG) formulation by embedding the fine-scale field at the fluid-structure interface. The VMDG formulation is variationally consistent and the stability parameters are explicitly defined, and it can adopt matching and non-matching discretizations for FSI computations.
